ICC World Cup 2019: The Cardiff strip had a fair grass cover and the weather was cloudy. Openers don’t want to walk out to bat, but Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan had to step out, face two balls and go back when the rain came in.
After a brief delay the openers returned, but Dhawan was this time trapped in front of his stumps, trying a Mustafizur Rahman ball to be flickered. At the other end, Rohit Sharma was much more careful, willing to leave balls outside the stump and willing to allow time to wait for the pitch to flatten.
However, after grinding it in the tough phase, he never looked really settled, and threw away his wicket as he was pulling Rubel Hossain, but finally cut the ball onto its stumps. For the second match the openers failed, and the Indian management could be quite worrying.
It’s nothing to worry about for Virat Kohli, however, since he believes his expert duo will stand up and be counted.
“In the first batting, we had two good challenges. Shikhar and Rohit are players of quality, they are stars in ICC events. Ideally, today we’d like to chase. If you guys do not go in this format immediately, I understand. At warm-up games, you don’t sometimes get the motivation because we play a lot of cricket. But I’m very happy about what we’ve got out of the two games, “Kohli said.
The skipper also said that once the main tournament begins, teams would like to follow up to facilitate opening life. On 5 June in Southampton, India began its campaign against South Africa.
